flashing dash light

My van's been standing doing nothing much for the last few months, I've now got the flashing red light back on the dash. I had it before last year but I think the temp sensor was changed and that got rid of it.

It starts flashing a few seconds after start up. I've run it up to temp and the temp gauge stays a bit above half way (which it where it often gets to anyway). The header tank is about half full – is this the way it should be?? With the van up to temp I can't hear the radiator kicking in and the radiator feels cold including the pipe on the right as you look up at it – should it be warm by now?

Any idea what's up with it??

The tank in the engine compartment needs to be full to the brim when cold my friend, the flashing light is actually a low coolant light not an overheat light

It also sounds like the system needs bleeding if the rad is cold at the top

Nice one thnaks for the quick reply HC – Do I just bleed it with the bleed screw in the engine bay or is there more to it than that?

my red light flashes quite often, think i need a new sensor. Although it does it more regulary when parked on the drive, which is on a slope. If i pull off my drive, turn ignition off and restart it stops flashing, kinda got used to it now, one day i will buy a new sensor, or even just take it out and clean it, just never seem to get round to it
