Hi Ringo, I assume you are talking about the pop top? I have 2 little ones up there with no issues - certainly not claustrophobic. and like you I use a bed side thingy the ones from Toyrus are the best as they don't have the Tomy hooks. To be honest slipping one under the thin mattress that is up there is very stable. However looking at your photos Dan, I don't think a bed side would work as I can't see the mattress.

I am concerned that cab bunks would be claustrophobic, as they seem to hang only 1 foot from the cab roof.

Nice one Dan, thanks for the photos and desciption. You should be proud of that! You do commissions?! Just kidding, something like that would be ideal and, with the assistance of a mates Mum and her sewing machine, I fancy it shouldnt be too tricky.
We just have our little 'un downstairs in the bed with one of us with the other adult up-top. Would be more fun for all if she was upstairs though, Im sure it'd be seen as an adventure by her too!

we've a westy hi top and little one has slept up there since he was about 16 months. We got one of those child bed barriers and slide it under the mattress. As soon as he starts moving around we could hear him. He also knows not to try and get out/over it. We've also got one of those inflatable beds and put it with the opening side against the roof so that he would be covered and couldn't roll out during his sleep. When he wasn't in the bed we found it difficult to keep him covered with blankets with all his moving around. He loves sleeping up there as it's his space and tells everyone that it's his bed, put some toys and books up there as well.

Oh and get some covers for any roof vents because it gets light early and our boy wakes up as soon as it's light so block it out!!!

Blimey!!!
That could be my van.
Holdsworth Villa 3 pop top with a Tomy bed guard for the upstairs sleeping compartment!!!
Works well for us. :D
1989 VW T25 Holdsworth Villa 3

It's got a VW motor, a 116.8 cubic inch plant, Michelin tyres, VW suspension, VW shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new RedSquirrel bus or what?
