LPG Gauge Lights
Newly converted to LPG and in Scotland at the moment.
Excuse the pun. I want to gauge people views on the LPG Gauge lights.
I got a 54L underslung tank (takes about 42L wet fuel). Roughly how many litres would people say are left when it goes down on to the last amber bar? I know this might vary from van to van.
I'm doing a fair few miles up here in Scotland and the lights tend to go down a bit quick. Though when filling up from amber the last couple of times the capacity been varied, so just want to get a view on this.
Would people say it's it's about 1/4 a tank left?
I'm keeping a notebook of mileage etc. On 42L what would be the mileage range then?

Re: LPG Gauge Lights
I've had 2 vehicles on LPG and the light guage is pretty much useless on them both. Both showed the tank to be empty when there's still around half a tank left. I now just ignore it and work it out roughly on the mileage.
Martin.

Re: LPG Gauge Lights
OK I'll keep to my notepad then. Today I was on a amber light and could only get 25 Litres in. So effectively still had 16 Litres in it!
When I hear the clunk at pump is that almost full as rest goes in very slow!

Re: LPG Gauge Lights
I do it on mileage and totally ignore the gauge as well
I've got a 2 tank set up with 78L total capacity, so about 62L wet, and get 250 miles before fills

Re: LPG Gauge Lights
The LED's only tell you that the tank is full, which fuel you are currently using and how this may affect your bank account (when its dark!) otherwise useless as guide to quantity used or remaining.....

Is there a red light? When I was converted by Gassure he only put a small amount in for starters and that was on amber!

Re: LPG Gauge Lights
yes there is a red light on my gasure conversion indicator OMNVI
I get 4 green lights when full.. lights a red when there's 15 litres left, but winks out when you do a right, I guess thats the liquid moving about.

Re: LPG Gauge Lights
I too have a Gasure LPG installation.
One red led tells me I am on petrol
One amber tells me I am on gas
Four green leds tells me how much I have in the tank:- 4 = Full and down to 1 for "I need gas".
Dont believe in what you see from the leds. Go by your Tripometer.
I have been caught out twice now with sticky leds.

Re: LPG Gauge Lights
not sure abbout these new "push button" switche units, but my old "three way" switch unit has 4 green lights and one red, 50 miles a light. the amber on mine means the engine is running, and the red the other side means perperpetrol ( dont know if it even lights up, never use it)
4 greens means full,
3 greens means ive done 50 miles since full
2 greens means ive done 100 since full
1 green means ive done 150 since full
lpg red means i have 50 miles or less to find LPG
i have only ever run out three times, once when the lpg station was unexpectedly out of lpg, and once when the lpg station i planned to fill at had a damaged pump and once when i stupidly drove past the last lpg staion for more miles than i had left.
so, not all led gauges are unreliable, but it does depend on temp, and angle just like a petrol gauge does, which on these vans is just as unreliable. dont go below 50 miles left in the tank is the best i find

Re: LPG Gauge Lights
I reckon my 60 litre tank has about 15-20 litres left when the last green light goes out..i.e only yellow on..
