water pipe split..
Driving home today in my 1990 Caravelle 2.1 petrol, the small right angled water pipe just above the oil filter split.
A bit difficult to get to the spring pipe retainers. Do you have to remove the oil filter to replace the pipe? Does the pipe have a part number, or is it just a bit of water pipe cut to length? Thanks - Paul

Re: water pipe split..
I used a suitable piece of water hose, 8mm I think
and it was easier with the cooler off

Thanks for the replies and the link.
Just to be sure, is it not this pipe?

Re: water pipe split..
Ian is right....I had the same hose burst two years ago as I got to the top of the Albiss pass in Switzerland.
You don't need to remove the filter...
There are two of these one behind the other BTW, I bet it's the one closest to the exhaust that's gone?
The hose is stepped...small bore to larger bore.
Fit with jubilee clips (easier)

Re: water pipe split..
The one you linked to is from the water pump to the steel pipe that drops round the side of the large steel pipe and down to the oil cooler.
It's not a bad idea to grab these hose while you can ... I did.
Ian.

Re: water pipe split..
Thanks for the replies guys! It is the pipe nearest to the exhaust.. Will order pipe tomorrow.
I have had this Caravelle for 7 years and a previous one bought new in 1990 kept for 10 years. Regretted selling the next day..spent the next 3 years finding this one. I can't imagine what I would buy to replace it.

Hello again, It is the pipe that runs down towards the oil filter, right next to the exhaust manifold. Attached to a steel pipe that runs along the top of the engine. It's so tight down there, can't see how to remove the pipe clips. No room for pliers etc..

When mine went (same one ... next to the exhaust) I took the filter and cooler off, removed the hoses, cleaned and dried it all and replaced the hoses using jubilees ... point to where you can get at them.

I always cut through them with a hacksaw or a Dremmel cutting disk as I always replace them with jubilee clips

Those spring loaded clips are a pain !!
