Snap - Accelerator Cable!

Post by colouredFunk »

Hellow,

On the way to work today when the accelerator pedal stuck to the floor, only to realise that the cable snapped off just before it locks does onto the engine. Thankfuly I managed to tie it back together with a bit of old speaker cable :o ...but I'm not really holding out the bodge job will last too long!!

I went out and got this from GSF:
712VG0150 ACCELERATOR CABLE T25 1.9 78 BHP Water Cooled 8/82 > 11/90

My van is a 1983 but with a 2.1i recon engine in....

Is it just a case of replacing the cable? Any little tricks that might come in handy?

Cheers

Trick i found - take out front Right indicator - gives you EASY access tot he pedal end.
When you are ready - pull the new through using the OLD (back to front or front to back - can't remember which end the nipple is on)

This avoids load of work fannying around trying to remember exactly where to poke the cable. as you have taken the old one out - also make sure you go through the guide tubes.
