Blue smoke diagnosis 1.9TD AAZ

Post by Hacksawbob »

Loads of blue smoke on start up and under load, lessening as the engine warms up. At constant speed (ie motorway) its acceptable but never goes away fully.
Exhaust is fooked, tail pipe has gone and cracked at mount on back box so cant be helping,
however more worryingly oil is all over the exhaust and seeping from the cracks.
Power is good though so hoping not compression.
I take it this is pointing towards turbo leaking oil? what do I need to do to fix?

As you stated Very wishfull??????????
Oil seals gone in the Turbo I am afraid to tell you, also Turbo will be coked up, Replacement Turbo needed rob or a strip down de-coke / clean and new seals fitted. Tate Turbo,s in Blackburne, They did 1 for me 12 months ago £280.00.
Dont go the cheap way by buying the seals and doing it yr-self as you dont have the equipment to set up the shaft and re-balance the Impeller.
Merc Dr (Marcus) ran a bad turbo with same results you have, Turbo blew up and impeller dissintegrated, got sucked in and blew the JX, Thats why he is now running a SB from a Passat, He was Gutted as he had just fitted a new Cylinder head which cost him £250, after test driving was only 4mls into test when the JX whent Bang---------- :ok
