Tailgate advice please

Post by ronburgundy »

Hi all

I need to replace the tailgate on my 1986 leisure drive.

Are all the tailgates the same for the T25?

Also, it looks like a reasonably straight forward job, but is there anything I should consider before going ahead with sourcing a replacement and fitting?

I am assuming I can use the exisitng lock mechanism?

Many thanks in advance! :)

There is an early and a late tailgate which switched around 1984.
The lock is visably much larger on a late one.
One doesn't fit the other as far as I know.

they all phisically fit other vans

as said above early (pre 84) long slider handle lock set vans have smaller hole for lock , this can be opened up tho.

other than that a few differences with badge holes, some didnt have badges , so no holes!
also some late ones had a rear vw badge in the middle, if yours dosent and the new one does , dont forget you will need to buy this!
rear wiper holes if either yours or new) had a rear wiper ,

holes for the demister wires ,jail bars and central locking not made unless fitted so if yours hasent the above and the new one has you will need to fill the jail bar screw holes(others not seen)

Thanks for the advice guys.

I have seen someone breaking a 1991 carravelle, so I guess this one will have the same lock as mine as both are post 84.

Trouble is it is miles away!!

Anyone know of where I could pick one up nearer to Essex? Does anyone have one for sale?
