Diesel Automatic
I have seen an automatic gearbox on German E-Bay from a "VW T3 1.6 TD JX Berlin taxi". Does anybody know if they are they same as petrol? It looks the same in the pics but I'm thinking maybe the gearing or final drive was different? I need one for mine as it leaks more oil than a stricken supertanker, and it's not too far away from me - I'm currently in the Fatherland.

Re: Diesel Automatic
Diesel auto?? er nope.. cannot find a single JX auto on ETOS.. 4 auto gearbox versions... codes... NH, NJ, NK and NM (taxi) Cant find the "NM" listed as fitted to any on the "taxi" chassis builds.. all others were petrol wbx..
Please enlighten me
Oh.. NH/NJ/NK price from VW around £1900 if still available... NM = £2500......

It's finished now, but I have it as a favourite so I could always make an offer, hence why I was wondering if it would be ok to fit to mine, ratio and gearing wise.

Re: Diesel Automatic
Er.. have you got a JX auto too then??
That box looks like it has an adapter plate bolted to the front on it..
As I said.. I cant find any referance on ETOS (VW's parts system) to a JX with auto.. so I reckon its something someone has done.. As far as I was aware they never did the TD in auto, anywhere.. I'll stand corrected if anyone knows better.. Auto's were petrol only...

that box defo has an adapter fitted , look at the stick , its also been adapted to fit to the td tunnel.

Re: Diesel Automatic
I have an Aircooled CU engine, but when the box went last time I put a watercooled one in as the bolt holes all line up, I just had to take off the heat exchanger form the back of it to fit it under the cross member. Hence, if all the ratios are pretty much the same I'll just make him an offer.

Re: Diesel Automatic
Aircooled / water cooled auto boxes are different
no oilcooler, but may not be a problem , differnt looking overall ,with differnt dipstick positioning i am sure the Aircooled stuff is baywindow leftovers

Re: Diesel Automatic
I've deffo got a water cooled autobox in mine - I had to take the heat exchanger off the back to clear the early Aircooled chassis crossmember that doesn't have the cut out to let it fit. Dipstick was in the same place to, to the left as you look from the back of the van. I think they changed the autobox over on the late bays, I'm led to believe it's nigh on impossible to get parts and rebuild those early autoboxes. I think my box is the 090 same as my old Aircooled box was, and I think it came from a 1.9.
