Starter motor bush - automatic

Simple question really - Do automatics have the bellhousing bush? Or am i looking for something that only relates to manuals?

In the WIKI, i quote - Once the starter is out, If you look into the large hole that it came out of you will see your starter motor bush, a small piece of copper looking tube

The hole mine came out of just contains the torque converter.

Further, i've bench tested my motor and i get a spark and solenoid clicking but nothing else. Put the jump lead across to the starter direct and just got a spark. Do i take it the motor's fried?

If so best place for a recon. unit? GFS do the correct one (i believe) for £100+. Any where else Manchester way?

I think the Autos have a different starter motor to Manuals, with no bush in the bell housing.

Cant help with where to get one from though.

There is deffo no starter bush on the automatic, it's self supporting. If you check out a picture of an auto starter motor on JK's website you'll see it doesn't have anything stuck out of it that could sit in a bush. I also know this because mine is an auto and I had to change mine recently. And yes, yours sounds fried. Mine just started turning slower and slower like I had a flat battery and in the end it just clicked and died. There are 2 different types of starter, just check out JK's pictures. From memory 1 has the solenoid held in by 2 screws and the other by 3, and also the solenoid is off centre compared to the lugs.

you can use a 2nd hand one , common to th golf diesels , later ones, you just need to elongate the 2 closest mount holes and it fits/works perfect!

i will need to source some pics for the wiki!
