Shell Island - Bank holiday weekend

Post by ringo »

I've never been to Shell Island - but i find it quite a nice idea.

So, we are planning to go next weekend (Bank holiday one).

However, i've heard mixed reviews from here - partly due to the chav presence on busy weekends i think.

Has anyone got any advice please?

Best places to park the van, good spots to go to, avoid it like the plague and go to...... etc

Much appreciated..

i keep toying with the idea...

some people seem to love it....others refer to it as Hell Island.

Apparently BH's are pretty busy

Thanks for that!

We have changed our mind - we're going to Anglesey instead!

Just been robbed for the campsite (£1.50 a night for a 20 month old baby!) but its right next to the beach and has good reviews..

Cheers,

Ringo

IF you choose to go the best places are over the top from the 'amenities' :rofl on the Shell Beach, there are a series of bays that are really nice and quiet.

Avoid the dunes like the plague ... think Scouse Chavs meets Beirut, H will be fighting all weekend  .

it has fantastic views, scenery and landscape, totally ruined by the poor facilitys , chavs and greedy site owners, and the fact its in wales.
its like wild camping in the local boy racer carpark on a saturday night, but with worse toilets, long grass and great views.....

shell is best avoided on a bank holiday or any school holiday - other than that, yeh, the facilities are basic but I wouldn't use em anyway.....isn't that the point in having a van???

Agree fully with that, keep away from 'the top' as much as possible and 'The Dunes', if you want a shower have one at dinner time .... as in NOT after folks have come back from the beach and want to get tarted up for the evening's 'jollys' ... bog emptying is basic and VERY public  The Coop on the way to Barmouth is the cheapest beer and essentials shop but the butchers in Llllllllanbedrrrrrrrrr is the best for bbq fettle.
