Service for a Suburu conversion

Post by ally »

HEy

I need to get my converted 86 Caravelle serviced for the summer. It's had some electrical problems but seems to be fixed by someone who wiggled the wires! Be good to get a service from someone who knows about both VW and the suburu before i start the summer weekend excursions.

The van is currently in Essex, Thurrock but i've moved to London so that's a possibility too..

Any ideas?

Cheers

Engine related

thanks for your attempted help

I did take to a tuning guy but he couldn't hook his computer up, would it need a Subaru specialist? Do you know anyone who understands the hybrids?

It was running lumpy before the wiggle, then i regained power. The dash temperature light has always flashed until this magic Rac man unplugged all cables then it stopped flashing, it seemed to run much quicker but now the lights back on.

Cheers

Who did the conversion? what subaru enigne is it? ej20,ej22,ej25?
what were the symptons before the so called wiggle fix?
what was wiggled? bad connection, dirty corroded, badly fitted instalation?
need more detailed info to go please.
no need to go to scooby specialist. these ar easy to work on if it has been fitted properly and loom etc modified properly then most poeple wiht a good understanding of motors can service these.
Water light flashing indicates low level coolant in expansion tank. was it low, was it modified to fit scooby engine, so many quesytions

A Place in Basildon, i can't remember the name it was so long ago (about 6 years) The vans been almost fine as to be expected all that time.

EJ20 from the estate version. Around 1994 i think.

Well i've had a string of problems recently. Water in the fuel, new tank and pump fixed that. It sounded like it was lumpy then. Spluttering missing and then it would just stop. Took a garage a long time to find the problem. Always sounded like it was running on two cylinders. He couldn't link his computer to the box as he thinks it was an import.

Then i had a pipe burst in France, thermostat was removed, got home ok.

Garage replaced piping (This is wear i think the wires might have been knocked) and had a mare getting water into the system. Managed it and everything was ok for a while. They forgot to put in anti freeze, (FYI that light has always flashed so im not sure any sensor was wired up to the VW panel) Radiator froze and RAC man had to come defrost me in the winter.

Everything was ok again, then all of a sudden spluttering returned, underpowered conked out. RAC man came out, wiggled all the wires, unplugged the Computer and most wires on the engine. Checked injector or spark plug and one side not firing right, plugged it all back in, firing ok, power returned and has been running like a beauty until again sounding a bit rough and running a bit hot again (i think)

I just want to make it safe now as baby is on the way!
