do i change the water pump ?
Hello all, i am having the lower front panel renewed on my 1983 devon pop-top 1.9 wbx and the rad has been damaged in the process at the garage. The upshot is the rad is being changed for a new one and shoud be back tomorrow. I have a new water pump still in the box which i picked up cheap on ebay some months ago and now i am thinking of changing the water pump as a preventative measure. The van has never had any cooling problems and never rises much over the first third and the old pump never made any noise, should i leave well alone. How hard is it, i was a plumber for 18 years and was thinking its only pipes. What do you think?

I changed ours (2.1 DJ) on Sunday the bearings were noisy but the pump wasn't leaking (yet), and that took 2 hours to change and 15 minutes to refill. Bearing in mind that our engine was fitted 2 years ago, nearly to the day and everything was easily undone.
If your's isn't noisy or leaking I'd leave it alone.

I did mine on my 1.9dg when it started a small leak. Never done one before but followed the haynes. Took me half a day from start to finish including filling and bleeding the system. Everything was seized god knows when owt had been touched last. Not too bad a job really. Change the thermostat whilst you're at it.

where's mi thammer?
