gearbox gone!

Post by Babbits »

Hello :) Another newbie here...my T25's gearbox has gone :( I've emailed a few places about reconditioning, but any further advice on places that do that would be great...or if anyone has, or knows where I could get a T25 1987, 4 speed, diesel conversion(tis now petrol but think the gearbox should be for diesel), code would be ABD ..please please get in touch :lol:

Or Billy739 could likely sell you a used one.

btw, it was a Diesel and now it's petrol, yes ?
Is it the WBX engine or has someone put a Golf / Passat in line 4 on the Diesel mounts ?

Oh and Hi "Babbits" by the way :ok

Hello :)

Cool ta, I've spoken with Aidan and i'll do a bit more diggin around and check out with Billy for a used one :)

yup it is now petrol, and I believe its a passat engine on the Diesel mounts ..just spent a bit of time learning about the engine, so managed to replace 2 valves with help and guidance from a good friend (all completely new to me but always wanted to learn about stuff like that)..so hopefully get a box, cos I'd like to see it through :)

Interesting conversion (though not totally rare) 2 years ago I nearly went that route due to hassles with my WBX engine - now all sorted :)

Unusual to have burnt out valves on that engine !

Obviously you gotta see it through :ok
Don't hesitate to ask on here about anything you need to know :)

Where are you ?

Is it a full on hi top Camper or a panel van or what ?

Well, just the one valve was burnt, exhaust valve, but the dude at the engine place i sourced the replacement from reseated them for me and advised he reckoned another was on its way oot ...so hopfefully that means they'll last a good bit :)

Ruby doesnt have a high top, i'm a bit o a short a*** so not required :lol: ..I'm no really sure what that makes her then, I'll get a pic up of her at some point, we're in Edinburgh..can often be identified by the white cowgirl hat and Kenny Rogers tunes that are a MUST while driving Ruby :)

I'm sure replacement (exchange) boxes are now available from just campers, however I had my box rebuilt by Shiplake Motors Henley on Thames, long way to send it rom Newcastle but worth every penny, box rebuild is perfect.

Shiplake no longer do gearboxes.. :wink:
Aidan can arrange collection and delivery :wink:

Aidan is THE ONLY person I will use.. he does a top quality job.. he has seen many gearboxes from lots of other sources that were supposedly "rebuilt" :shock:

Use Aiden for gearbox rebuilds. He did mine a few months ago along with about 20 other people i know who have used him in the past.

Talk to Boxby

http://www.boxby.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Or https://www.uship.com/listing2.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Price is on a tender basis and can be very cheap.

4 speed is less than 40kg call it 50x50x1m depends on how it's packed, they go 1/4 pallet rate on a pallet with all the companies I use as less than 60cm high and under 250kg

The other people you can use are Shiply

http://www.shiply.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Let me know if you use any of these. I'm not connected with them but I do talk to them in a professional capacity in my day job and feedback useful to me. Shiply use empty lorries (of which there are many after finishing deliveries) to move your box for you. You should get a reasonable deal amongst them and a darned site cheaper than DHL etc

Re Shiply

I used Shiply to transport a T25 engine a couple of years back,
£27 from London to Manchester, picked up on time and dropped off on time with a call 1/2 hour before.
