Watercooled tinware?

Post by john_artist »

1.9 DG Watercooled auto sleeper "Trooper" 1989.

I have two pieces of tinware under the engine, one of which has rusted away quite badly.

Do they need to be there, being watercooled? If so, what are they for?

The nearside one helps prevent water splashing onto the coil/ignition components ... 6 years ago I found out the hard way

Under the engine or to the left and right of the engine?
Under the engine are there to proect the pushrod tubes, you do need them really.. Brickwerks will be bringing out some replacements shortly..

To the left and right of the engine, just splash guards, you can get away with them, but as said.. "water splash" can cause issues...

They are the left and right bits. Obviously I need to replace them then!

Thanks for the info. Very helpful as usual. :-)

It's a bit tricky taking photos of them without the van being lifted quite a bit unfortunately! Next time I am under it I will have a try. Unless anyone else has pics please?
