Since putting my engine back in the van the alternator light stay's on and the battery goe's flat over night i've since traced this to the stereo but i've jumped to start and after a while checked the battery with my multimeter and it's kicking out 14.28 with the engine running, switched off and it trickle's down to 12.75,also at the split charger the blue wire is only a faint trace of feed , if i disconnect the blue wire the light goe's out on the dash any idea's guy's.
Thank's Tony

is the splitcharge relay switching off with the engine..ie.. it not sticking on?
test it for continuity across the big terminals on the relay

Re: Flat battery
The blue wire should have +12 volts running through it when the alternator is charging. Check the wiring near the alternator to ensure the connection hasn't come apart and is making good contact. If your alternator is charging then this should be giving out voltage too.

Re: Flat battery
Not to hijack a thread but....... similar problem maybe with similar solution???
I've had a problem with my liesure battery not being charged. Starter battery is fine, approx 12v engine off and 14.5 engine on. However the leisure battery is at about 10v engine on or off. I checked the voltage on the blue wire from the alternator earlier and this was only in the region of 1.5 volts with the engine running. I haven't a clue what would cause this? I'm about to have a play and take it for a run, but any suggestions are MORE than welcome.
Off to cornwall for the week tomorrow so be nice to get it sorted. And yes it is my fault it raining now.

I'm sure that rust wasn't there last week! Rust blue slowly going yellow panel by panel - And five years later, Orange!

My first posting so forgive the length of script, I appreciate your frustration and felt the need to at least provoke the experts out there!!
A similar problem happened on my Golf IV GTi the battery kept running flat. A new alternater and two batteries later (cells in bats deteriated) and still baffled. I dont know the the exact name of the connection/wire but this is the role it plays...On most cars vans etc, when you turn all the ignition lights on you generally get a battery light show and stay on, and it stays on for about two seconds or so once you start your engine and then goes out. The problem with my golf was I wasn't getting a battery light atall when the problems started. An auto electricial conected two wires that had been snaped when chaging the first battery leading from the battery to I believe the starter motor (I am not sure here mind). I have never had a problem since...Check your wires carefuly tony you may find something. Fingers crossed bud!
Like your good self I am on a learning curve and I am about to ask my own question about tyres.
