URGENT - Advice needed!! Oil pressure gauge issues!?

Right me and my brother have been experiencing what we've come to learn is called 'the buzzer of DOOM!'
(We own a 1987 petrol waterboxer caravelle by the way)
Basically a buzzer sounds and the oil light starts flashing when it warms up and we rev it a little, we did a search and read the wiki and learned it'd be triggered by either low oil pressure, dodgy connections or the high revs low oil pressure gauge playing up, so we sought a new one and went to replace it and there was no cable attached!!
What do we do!!!?
We changed the old gauge anyway but have no idea which cable to plug onto it, and are completely puzzled to how the buzzer was even being triggered when it wanst plugged in. :?
Where should the desired cable originate?
We took a few photos of where the other guages (low revs low pressure) cable comes from and suspect that the other cable that comes out of the loom at the same place should go to the other gauge (it was already plugged onto the distributor) Which puzzled us further.

We're in a pickle, someone set us right please!!

If the wire is disconnected that will trigger the buzzer, there should be a yellow wire which goes to the high pressure switch, some vehicles the wire changes to a brown wire at the switch. The blue/black wire goes to the low pressure switch.

cheers for the help mate. The buzzer and flashing light were only being triggered once it was warm and we revved it or drove it, even though there was no wire connected :|
I'll go down there and take a look today at which wires we've got connected to where. :ok

Went down there this morning. I checked the wires that we have going to both pressure switches. All ok, correct colours going to the correct switches.

Then I set about taking the clocks out to find out if we've got any dodgy connections:

Thats a yes then!! :twisted: Grr!!
One of the wires had been pulled out of the multi connector and soldered straight onto a copper track on the ribbon!!

We're going to need some new clocks at the least. I couldn't check pressures with my guage, the thread on the connector is imperial :cry:

You have an interesting looking system there ... the water pump's the late style with the oil cooler take-off which has a clear hose showing air bubbles ... the system needs properly bleeding.

Btw the buzzer is only triggered over 2,000 rpm.

Got another question. Are Watercooled and Aircooled clocks the same?

no
you need pretty year specific clocks so you want late ie 1986 model year on clocks for petrol engine, but it doesn't matter if no clock, or big clock or rev counter/digital clock version they are all interchangeable the multiplug should be wired the same on all vehicles, you may be able to use some of what you've got, don't bin it, the bulbs etc are worth having even if the rest is scrap but wait until you are sorted before getting rid.
the tracks can be repaired on the pcb with electrical conductive paint and a fine paintbrush and some care

Thanks for the info Aidan.
Im unsure whether it'll be possible to repair that pcb, the tracks on the connector are f**ked! I might have a look for some conductive paint though, if we can get it good enough to sort the problem, that'll be good enough for the time being.
