Service Interval?

We just booked the van in for a service, just looked tho and we only done just over 3000 miles since its last one. Anyone any advice on what a service interval should roughly be? Thanks!

Depends on how its used really

If your only doing 3k a year then I'd do it twice a year , just for piece of mind
If your doing 20k a year then every 5k ish
A basic oil and filters change is cheap , £5 for the oil (see red westies post in G/D) and £5 for the oil filter.£7 air filter. Half hour tops job done.

Well VW service intervals circa 80-90 went:

6,000 interim (oil/filter, lights, levels, tyre pressures and general inspection)
12,000 main (oil filter, air filter, petrol filter if air cooled, Diesel filter, lights, spark plugs, tyre pressures, general levels, tappets adjustment on inline engines and general inspection)
36,000 Major (all the above but with additions in some cases of petrol filter on injected WBX, auto gearbox oil change)
Cam belt etc at 60,000 from memory (inline 4's) or no longer than 4 years for low mileage (thats just personal choice)
Manual gearbox oil change was not stipulated but given the age of these vehicles I would say it should be done every couple/three seasons (36,000)

Doing just 3,000 a year, one main service should be enough although I would say on a vehicle this age it should be thorough and include a brake strip and check (front pads out, cleaned and refitted with lube, rears de-dusted, backplates lubed, assembled and re-adjusted)
Always better to overservice.

Thanks for all your replys! Goes in for a service and lowering on friday based on the general opinion here.

Id love to service the van kevtherev but i have no drive and no trolley jack - due to the fact i have no drive! One day ...

Fair enough..
Then I would be buying the correct service items for the garage...
