cheers for the numbers just by chance does anyone have the numbers for the steering coupling nuts and bolts I have replaced both my track rod arms as there was too much play, good job I checked the steering couplings (3) as well as 2 had quite bad splits in them not good if you dont want to lose your steering! worth a check for all often forgotten about and these vans are old :ok

Just don't go lower than 8.8 tensile, which is about what you'll find all over these vans (apart from the big suspension ones which may be 10.5 rated)
5.6 and 6.8 rated are plasticine in comparison!

Hi all

Just got the nuts and bolts from VW

As detailed by Tomanytoys, Cheers for the info the bolts are 10.9 Grade as to are the nuts all steel self locking, these should only be used once, the bolts for the steering unions are also available N01024425 M8 x 30mm also grade 10.9 they use the same type and size nut. you can not be too careful when dealing with suspension or steering, as I said above its worth checking out your steering couplings 2 under the van one in the cab base of steering column a my lower one had perished and was split next stage was no steering, not nice.
Cheers again for everyone's help :ok
