Engine Removal (not g-box) - with silencer?

Post by Yozza »

Ay up,
The engine is coming out as I want to inspect/measure the pistons and barrels properly as they may need to be 'made good', I've had the engine out before (left the box on the van) but can't remember if the silencer needs to be removed to allow you to the pull the engine rearwards off the box before dropping it down? OR... can you lower the engine a few inches then pull it rearwards off the box then drop it to the ground? Ideally I'd like to leave the silencer and pipework on as it's just a mass of rust now (dismantling = renewal = more cost :( )

you can leave the exhaust on but you have to drop the exhaust guard with the engine and the top up tank has to be dealt with too, I'd leave the box on the engine and drop them together rather than faff with the silly angles involved in seperating them

yes as above easiest to leave engine and box togeter!

if you do just take the engine out you will still need to loosen front gearbox mount (rubber bush bolt) to allow it to pivot, drop the gearlingake off the box so you dont damage it , and undo the clutch pipe -easiest with cylinder so not to damage it , and disconnect the reverse lamp switch
the only think left is the driveshaft bolts!

and at least if you do them they can be checked ect

cheerz again, I did want to check the cv joints anyway as there is a rumble from those areas, so it now makes logical sense to drop engine and box off together.
