Oh the excitment of Aires camping :)

Post by Essex Nige »

The ferry is booked (£50 for a nine day return)

The syncro is about to have the westy interior fitted ready for Aires camping...
Being a bloke weeing up a tree and squating in bushes for the good lady is fine she has thrown a spanner in the works and asked about showering... Now hair driers/streightners i can sort, Number 2's i can deal with :rofl :rofl but showering.... now thats different, i did suggest we take a watering can but that wasn't what she wanted to hear....

So those that have done this what did you do??

Pick your Aries right and some have showers on them, or you could have a wash in the sea or a lake!!! we managed for 3 weeks last year, we popped into the odd campsite, you can make it work. plan it right!!! Where are you heading? You will have a great time...

Is it something that is peculiar to Essex?

So those that have done this what did you do??

Most good camp shops sell shower / utility tents (like a loo tent, but with more elbow room. They also sell solar heated shower packs, which are just a big black bag filled with water that you lay in the sun to warm up. They have a simple shower nozzle. Then stand in a collapsible canvas bowl / tray thingy and shower away. Not sure theres enough time to wash and rinse the old barnet at the same time though. Maybe need 2 of the black bladders?

showers
if you have a thin bird then here's a trick
once the tailgate is up and you have changed the gas struts a 5 gallon plastic jerry can can be supported or a black shower bag.. more than enough for a good cat lick
Around the lip of the gate fix some press studs.. bit of pipe.... I think you can guess the rest

we've used it a some shows.. without the curtain.. just left me grundies on :D

I think it is meant to read Aire's
Aire's are the picnic style layby's on the french motorways. You can stay over night in them. Aire Municipal is a type of budget camp site run by local authorities in France.Visited one that had a coin operated electric hook up. Fantastic place. 5 euros for the hook up.

Others may give a far more detailed response

Most of the Aires we have stopped at are located all over France in the most weird and wonderful places. Some are in supermarket car parks and others are in villages, next to rivers, and some are just short strips of tarmac dotted in a village or next to a country road. Some are basically a parking pitch and some have facilites for water, toilets, chemical toilet waste etc and elctricity. Have even stopped at one that electricity was free!

Have never stopped overnight in an aires on the motorway but were warned once that you get some dodgy people knocking around in them. Wether that is true or not it put me off so we always stay in the village ones If we can. :ok

We use the 'All the Aires' book by vicarious.
