berel distributor caps

Post by albertramsbottom »

HI

I have just found a brand new Berel distributtor cap in the back of my van. So I though oh well I might as well bung it on. But on close inspection the inside of the protrusions that the ht leads fir on to are slightly different.

My orginal one has small posts inside each ht lead dooacy :D but the new one doesnt have anything apart from a flat copper bottom.

Now will this cap still work with my noraml ht leads (I mean the ones with the curled round copper bit at the end).

As its new I would have thought that I ordered the right one

Cheers

:D

The Berel cap is the corect one for your engine but it looks like someone has fitter the later type of cap, it depends on whether the later HT leads have been fitted as well as to which cap you need.

Sorry i gotten a bit confused

The origianl cap isnt a berel and has the posts inside the ht lead protrusions on the top. I brought new ht leads from JK last year

The new cap hasnt got posts in the ht lead protrusions and is a berel cap.

It sounds like I had fitted the wrong ht leads to my old dizzy cap. Or does the new beral cap have completly different ht leads?

Cheers

If the ends of your leads have lil holes up them that match the posts, then all is correct :)

The earlier type just have a brass sleeve that crimps over the HT lead and has a "blunt" end, ie, no hole up the centre.
