Hi all from Tanzania,
Were DG/WBX engines fitted to South African vans? Reason I ask is the hose that goes from the rear left (looking at van from back of van) of the engine to the metal pipe that runs around top of engine bay blew just before I left on to go on holiday. Hose is that one that has a larger diameter at engine end and gets smaller at other end and is on a 1988 1.9 DG petrol.
We will be in SA in two weeks so I wondered if the DG/ was fitted whether I could go and order the part at a VW dealer as I have not been able to find one elsewhere online.
Thanks for your help,

As far as I know (and I'm still learning, so Russel will put me right if I'm wrong) all flat four SA vans (pre '91) were available as 1.9 DG or 2.1 DJ, so you may be lucky at a parts counter out there...

If you are going to the Jo'burg area, the VW dealer is Lindsay Saker. Loads of outlets.
I bought my first VW Beetle from them in 1975!

Thanks for the replies.
If flat four engines were only fitted till 1991 then it puts me in the same position as getting one from a UK dealer. I was hoping they might have been fitted for a few extra years!
If I have time i will try a few dealers in Jo'Burg.

Re: Were DG/WBX engines fitted to South African vans?
Is it a panel van/bus etc or a pickup? as I thought only pickups had a metal "breather/bleed" pipe arond the top of the engine bay.. (i'll stand corrected on that mind) van/bus etc had plastic one
A pic would be handy.. so I presume its the one with a 90 degree(ish) bend near the engine.. part number is 025 121 058 C , poss £24 at VW..
Anyway, where is it bust? if its away from the head end then simple rpair would be short lenght of copper pipe in the middle...

Thanks for all the replies.
Toomanytoys: It's a Caravelle.
No photo I'm afraid as I'm in Malawi. The part number posted by Toomanytoys would appear to be the right pipe. Does anyone have a link for it on Brickwerks as I couldnt see it on there.
Thanks again.

Email sales@brickwerks and ask. There's quite a bit on the shelf that's not on the webshop.
