Does anyone know what coil should be fitted?
I have electronic distributor fitted, but I;m not sure if it shoul dhave a ballast or non ballast coil fitted, at the moment it has a ballast coil fitted is this correct?
The main reason I ask is I'm having more running issues with the old girl again, seems fine for a while, then she will become hesitent when you put your foot down and sometimes a small missfire on overrun can be heard.
This all started last year, and I put it down to the coil so bought a coil, but now I;m questioning myself whether this is the correct one or not as the problem comes and goes.
So far I;ve replaced plugs, dist cap, rotor arm and leads.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Andrew

Naah, you don't need a ballast coil. The only time you need these is when you have a balast unit fitted. The idea is that when turning over the engine you have a direct connection to the coil from the battery while the starter motor is draining power. When you release the key after starting and it returns to the IGN position, the power to the coil runs through the ballast unit instead and this drops the power slightly because now the full power from the battery is being received by the coil. Most ballast units/coils were designed for points ignition.

Thank you, I;ve been doing a little reading this afternoon and it would appear that I do have the wrong coil, so hopefully thats causing my issues.
Cheers

Re: CT Aircooled coil question?/ running issue
If it helps the 2.0 litre coil is the same as the 1.6. Primary resistance (across + and - connections) is somewhere near 0.6 Ohms. Secondary resistance
(across - and HT connections) is somewhere near 3000 (3k) ohms. Give or take a bit!

Thats give or take a big bit. That should be 3k ohms.VWCamperfan wrote: Secondary resistance (across - and HT connections) is somewhere near 3.0 ohms. Give or take a bit!
