hi all just purchased some powerflex bushes for my steering rack from brickwerks, as my steering is a little bit wandery. after jacking up van and moving the wheels it seems that, the track rod ends connected to the steering rack move back and forth. after taking off the boot i notice that the steering rack inner moves about. is this normal? or should the inner part/bar/tube of the steering rack stay central and just slide in and out?
Do i need a new rack?

You are correct in your assumptions.....the rack bar should move in and out but not up/down or side to side.
New rack I'm afraid but not massively expensive (72.50 +vat number 430VG0020 from GSF for a R/H/D) minus track rod ends.
