Heavy duty oval air filter

Post by Epiphone »

Hi, sorry, but I just dont understand how I can put "oval air filter" into the search engine and get relavitely nothing. Nothing in the wiki either or am I doing it all horribly wrong.

Anyway, ive got the Heavy Duty Oval Air filter. Is this a rare part? Was it only in a few Buses?

Should I buy a new one, as just brought bus and dont know how old it is? or can it be washed?

Might still be available from VW.. maybe Mann filters too..

BUT.. if you are not driving in dusty conditions etc then you can use the std air filter..

IIRC Aidan said these HD ones are for extreme conditions and have a massive service life under "normal" conditions..

If it's any help, I've got a K&N round one in my 2.1 which has done 65,000 km now (and due for a clean to honest  )
I've no idea if it "should" be in there having read this thread, but the last owner fitted it 20,000 km before I bought the van and it seems to run ok
What a long strange trip it's been

OK then, so I could have a paper round one in if I wanted then. but as you know Aidan, im over in Germany, with a simple 2.1l SS '89 Caravelle (not SA or Syncro) so I guess the previous owner went a bit over board with the Heavy Duty air filter then.

Well My bus has done at least 240K KM, so I would like to keep this heavy duty air filter then if it lasts so long and if I can clean it somehow (blowing compressed air through or putting in washing machine) then I would like too keep it. Makes me feel special
