Tinted Windows

Hi, I have just had a quote of £200 to tint the windows on my van. This is for the rear window, four panel windows, one of which is a slider. They do not take the windows out to do this and apply a film layer. Does this seem reasonable? Any tips, comments, things I should know or ask, gratefully appreciated.

i had mine done for £200 but the guy took out all the glass.so the tint goes below the rubber.not sure how the finished job would look leaving the glass in.apparently the tailgate glass is a right pain to do.

Yeah, I wondered about that too! Think it might look a bit naf if the windows in and they cut around the rubber? Maybe i will try lookin around, anyone know of somewhere good around the brighton area?

the tint film shrinks over a period of time. If they do it with the windows in and cut round the rubber, you will see daylight after a while.

I paid £200 last summer to have mine removed and tinted so i'd say that £200 un removed is quite steep

Thanks a lot for all the help. Seems like windows out is the way to go. Will try contacting a few places and see if they will do this. In the meantime if anyone can recommend a good place near Brighton, would be great.

i have done tinting for a living so understand what it takes to tint the windows on many vehicles, some are almost easy and some a complete pain in the rear
to take the side windows out of a T25 with non OE rubbers is relatively easy as long as the rubbers are in good condition, they will need to be sealed when they are refitted or they will leak, the glass is flat so no need to shrink the film, the rear glass is not flat so will need to be shrunk before fitting but thats no big deal if you know you game, to get a good finish it would be best that the glass is removed from the vehicle so that it can be cleaned, tinted and then refitted, by doing and i meen tinting the glass out vehicle you will get a better finish because you have cleaned all the dirt from the glass and there is ton's of dirt held by the rubbers and as soon as you go near the dirt with liquid it sucks it up behind the film and that will look awfull,
the older the vehicle the more dirt there is so when i do old cars etc i take the glass out where i can or tell the customer that i will do my best when i cant, because of the age of some rubbers it would destroy them if i tried to remove them and you cant get rear 1/4 rubbers for MK2 Lotus Cortinas any more and what is around is old,
anyway back to the subject ( your bus ) i could tint the windows in situ but the finish would not be as good as if the windows were removed, you say one of them is a slider well sliders are a bit of a pain but all do able,i used to tint lots off Mitsubishi Shoguns when they were new so no dirt and could do in situ, if i did one now it would be best to remove strip and then refit but that takes time and that costs money, also the older the slider the more the risk it will fall apart when you do try to take it apart, tinting is not as easy as it may look and there are lots of tricks that you pick up that saves time and your hair
the film i use does not shrink and i have never come across any film that has but have seen some bad fitment in my time,
you say you can get it done for £200 and that to me does not sound to bad a deal as the back window will need shrinking, the slider will be a pain, and there is going to be ton's of dirt to deal with so with all that and the time it will take it's not a bad deal really, give some local companys a call and ask for some prices, if you can go down to them and see what they do all the better as you can see the kind of finish you get, i use an American film and have never had any trouble with it, the film is not cheap to buy but then you get what you pay for in this life, i buy it for peace of mind as i dont want to have to go back and rectify my work due to film failure, i hope i have helped.

I've never re sealed um and never had a leak after???? And done windows in MOD trucks and plant for the last the last 15 years?
