Water cooled engine swap for Aircooled
Hello, I am thinking of swapping my water cooled 1.9 engine for an Aircooled 2.0, has any one else done this? Does anyone know of the extra bits I will be needing to do to make it work? I keep reading about tinwear, and there is a rumour to do with engine mounts. Any clues would be really greatly appreciated! Nice one!

I had Aircooled panel van before and loved every minute. heater worked ok too. But feel i must ask why he needs to go to the extent of changing.

My old engine spat all its water out of the head gaskets, and to fix it is a pain up the bum. My exhaust will crumble to pieces if i try to unbolt it, so, i had an offer of an engine at a v v v reasonable price, and if its not to much of a mare, ill whack that in. I want to go to vw elemental in my van on the 10th you see.

Well as long as you have all the tinwear with it, then go for it. But the tin wear is oh so important.....

Far enough

Tinware is essential, as long as its been dropped straight out and all is there it shouldn't be too much of a hardship to do.

Engine wont sit in the right place though.. air cooled box is different to the watercooleds, front mount will need to be "adjusted" and means the gear linkage will be out of position too.. No heating... a lot of work just coz its a bit cheaper.. but if you like a challenge...
If you do go down that route, then make sure the engine bay seal is done properly too.. (between cooling tin and bodywork)..
