2.1 DJ/LPG Timing - Help

Post by Yozza »

I've read the wiki, haynes and https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... g#p7454540" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I'm still not sure how to set the timing for a DJ, and I feel a knob for having to ask for help on what should be a fairly simple task. :shock:
I'm not convinced Mr Haynes has got it right. When I read the thread above I thought I was onto a winner as it involved setting the timing at idle and at 2000-2500 RPM. However, when I looked closely it's for a MV, so I assume this method can't be adopted for the DJ? I also got a bit confused with the info on wiki :?
And to confuse matters more, I also run LPG, what (if any) adjustments should be made for running on gas?
Please help before I start to hit things with a big hammer. :x

dj is disconnect the two three pin plugs on idle stabiliser unit and join together
disconnect single wire for idle system (have seen it as two wire on late syncros)
disconnect vacuums to disi and block the pipes, golf tees are good for this
check idle is ok at 800rpm +/-50rpm, adjust on throttle body /afm if necessary
and set timing at 5 degrees for unleaded 10 degrees for superplus and lpg
Haynes is correct for DJ just a bit windy written

I would set for 10 deg BTDC and when you have to put petrol in use 98/99 UL (tescos 99 is good..) if you HAVE to run it on 95 at any time.. then drive gently and for as short a distance as poss... :wink:
