Rebuilding 1.9 DG as a 2.1?

Big lumps of metals and spanners.

Rebuilding 1.9 DG as a 2.1?

Post by Chrissyt »

I'm soon to rebuild a new motor for my 1.9 WBX and am interested to know if I can put 2.1 barrels and pistons in it? Is everything else the same?

Cheers

Chris

Not as simple as that im afraid as for a start the cranks are different, though i will have a 2.1 crank available in the near future and know someone with some 2nd hand 2.1 pistons/liners.

As far as i know the crank and pistons are different (liners aswell maybe?), you can use the 1.9 carb (pierburg) and you will also be best getting an oil cooler which are fitted to 2.1 engines.

If youve got an early 1.9 case then it will need altering for the 2.1 crank, if youve got a late 1.9 crank it should go straight in.

Im not sure if there any other differences someone else on here will be able to confirm
