roof box on pop top ..?

Post by apcomark »

Hi

has anyone ever fitted a roof box on a pop top...?

I have brackets mounted on my roof (pop top) which i presume are for roof bars ... i am thinking of fittiing a box to keep my bulky items in on the roof ... awning and my toys.... several large kites and boards... at the moment i am forever moving kit around in the van, lack of storage is my one problem with my beloved van.... stashing it out of the way up top would be the way forward.... the kites are so bulky 3 huge rucksacks and after a session on the beach are put away damp and covered in sand this eventually dries and gets shaken out of the bag into the rock n roll bed .... i slept inn the van the othe rnight in about 2 buckets of sand that had seived its way out of the kite bags.....this is a wonderfully authentic camping experience though it would be nice to wake up without sand in every nook and cranny...!.....

i think the brackets would support the box when the roof is down...the brackets sit in the gutter..... am worried about when the roof is raised, whether the fibreglass is able to take the weight of 15kg of box filled with 50kg of items ...?am thinking of 540 litre box a fair old size.... also would it affect the roof hinges.... anyone have any experience in this area...its westy type roof...

I will upload a pic of my brackets tommorrow aint got a detailed enough picture at the mooment... they look like homebrew type stuff someone may have mounted a canoe or surfboard on...

Get yourself some 800nm+ gas struts. They'll hold the weight even when open.

Fitted some on a Devon moonraker and it works fine and has been for the last year.

Good luck.
