Re: Birth of a Syncro
Finally got round to doing some more work on my Syncro, now the weathers got a bit warmer.
Decided I needed to replace the K&N air filter that was on the end of the AFM and replace it with a Syncro set up.
Managed to get one of MG.
Had to get a nother LPG mixer as mine wouldn'y fit between the AFM and the stock Air filter box.
Quick call to Steve at Gasure and one was on its way.
Didn't have any small diameter pipe so had to use some hosepipe (2 yellow pipes)
Managed to set the mixture up with my LM1 on LPG
Under load up hill 13.5 : 1
Half throttle Flat 15.6 : 1
Throttle shut downhill 18 : 1
Idle 16.6 : 1
I think that should be ok
Still have to fit the snorkel
need to get the pipe from the base to the elbow.

Really happy with them not tried them in the mud yet. Quiet on the road.
Have got a spare set of the Alloys May get some Kumho KL71 muds 205/16
Will be taking the spoiler off before it gets ripped off.
Now need to get a spare whell carrier.
Any Ideas

Re: Birth of a Syncro
Ian at Syncro-Nutz is about to start the manufacture of a new batch if you are interested, I just put my name down for one as it looks pretty substantial! What is the spec of your LPG kit, looks interesting!

Re: Birth of a Syncro
Nice job on the conversion.
I presume this would cost an arm and a leg if you didn't have a donor vehicle to take the syncro parts from?
What I mean is....for someone who wants a syncro on a limited budget, would it be a good option to buy a nice 2wd from Germany and convert it to 4wd when funds allow?
(like this for example... http://www.autoscout24.de/Details.aspx?id=vrylcqxbr3ye" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )

Re: Birth of a Syncro
Not done any work on my Syncro for a while now
Just driven it, my Daily Driver.
In preperation for the annual France trip I thought I better do some work on it.
The list of jobs is massive.
1st job to do is fit oil temp and presure gauge.
I previously bought some s/h gauges from an Audi 80 I think
got the oil temp sender from VW 049 919 563 B
I am going to install the oil temp sender in place of the high pressure sender next to the crank pulley
seen here without adapter
I trial fitted the sender into the adapter only to find it only goes halfway down (don't know if this will effect the temp it is reading) do I need a longer temp sender. Too long and it will retrict oil flow I guess
You can just see the sender about 10mm down

Re: Birth of a Syncro
It would be nigh on impossible as VW dont stock all the parts and if you have never had a Syncro before you would have a micky of a job trying to get it right!boatbuilder wrote: I presume this would cost an arm and a leg if you didn't have a donor vehicle to take the syncro parts from?
If you have a limited budget dont buy a Syncro. They are a money pit! There is one for sale in Kilkenny!boatbuilder wrote:What I mean is....for someone who wants a syncro on a limited budget, would it be a good option to buy a nice 2wd from Germany and convert it to 4wd when funds allow?

Could it be a door to one of those demountable camper units?

Isn't that a bit lean?
Stoichometric is 15.5:1 for LPG isn't it?

couldn't get 15.5:1 all the time
so went for it at half throttle flat (cruising)
You are right its lean at Idle and throttle shut.
Rich under full load.
Thought this was the best compromise as Richer gives a little more power, Leaner more economy.
I will be fitting a Leonardo and power valve to see if I can make improvements
