... I keep umming and arring about using glass paints to do mine in blue and as I've painted 240v light bulbs with it before I know it'll be up to the heat.

order watever color leds with 12v resistors from ebay, solder em into the original bulbs ya got... simples .....i think . . .

LED's...no good if you have a dimmer (reostat) me thinks?
I know VW do various colour options just not sure if they do them in this type...glass paint is a cheapish and flexible option.

ive done in it mine and it has a dimmer, granted it doesnt do very much but there is a slight dim, all in all though the light direction isnt very good, can still see it but nowhere near as bright as the traditional bulbs, but i still think mine looks cool !

Get some high intensity micro LEDs (from Halfords - called LED prism micro LEDs), they come with the necessary resistor. Cut the wires short and solder them into old panel light buld holders. Replace existing bulb holders with these LEDs. Job done. The only thing is that if they do not light, the bulb holders need to be taken out and put in the other way round as LEDs are polarity sensitive and only work one way round.
The ones I used were blue but other colours are available.
They work on the dimmer as well.
