How to remove front lower grille?

Post by syncropatrick »

Hi, had a quick search but couldn't find it. How does one remove the front lower grille on these things? Does it destroy the fittings in the process and therefore require new ones for refitment?

Just remove the 5 screws and tug gently.

I can't see 5 screws, just five small plastic plates. Ate the heads behind the plates?

Is there a hole in the centre of each of the 'plastic plates'? The fixings screw directly into the plastic plates which spreads the lug at the rear of the plates out thereby holding the grill to the bodywork. Sounds like your screws are missing and the grill is only being held on because the lugs have 'set' in the spread position. In which case, just gently lever the plates out with a flat screwdriver.....

Yes, there is a hole in the middle of the plate, which is filled with plastic. I'll have a poke around and see if I can prise this centre bit out and see whats behind.

Try pushing the centre plastic part through.
They might be the type that are locked by the centre pin instead of a screw.

I've not seen that arrangement. Is it unusual or perculiar to a certain type of van like Caravelle etc?

I've not seen them on a bus, but I have come across them for securing trim on other vehicles.
I only mentioned it in case someone has used them on his grill.

That's it thanks. Push the centre through to get the grille out, then refit with screws instead. My van is a Caravelle GL. It came with a bodykit of dark grey slightly shiny grilles and side planks. Sideplanks gone now, but they did have VW numbers of them.
Ta v. much. :ok

Those clips you have are mainly used on landrovers to hold the wheel arch trim in place!

The original pins have a tendency to just twang off (never to be found again) if the pulling has to be less than gentle

... bit after the event I know (Broadband dead for the past 4 days  ) but JK sell 'em http://www.justkampers.com/shop/type_25 ... 13048.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and then sell the screws to replace the pins as well! I had them on mine and yes the answer was to push them through then spend then next hour or so looking for them ... usually tucked away in the tiniest recess of the van where you couldn't get you hands!
We're doomed!
