Painting a Westy fibreglass poptop

Post by eddie.eagles »

My roofs paint is so worn I can feel the fibreglass fibres and it gets damp inside when it rains nonestop (last 6 months!) Is rustoleum the best thing to paint the roof with or something else? Ta

Cheers James. I looked at hammerite, they have tins now that say 'rollable'on the lid but then say don't use thinners for using a brush but do for spraying and say nothing about rollering! How did you apply it?

For a fibreglass top, why not use a proper fibreglass paint? It's a no-brainer really.

Give International Paints a ring - I have always found them to be the most helpful people to deal with, whether you are looking for a large order or just a single tin.

One other point - if the fibres are now exposed, it would seem to indicate that you or someone before you might have been using an abrasive cleaner. Theres another thread going about this, but you should use a special cleaner on fibreglass, or the gel coat goes, and it leaks, suffers frost delamination expansion, algae growth, and all sorts of other grief.
