Push rod seals

Hi
Has anyone any experience regarding fitting a rocker pushrod tube seal with engine in situ?
It says in the Haynes manual it can be done by using a telescopic tube ,available but quite expensive . Apparantly its out with the rockers ,slide the pushrod out and remove the old tube and replace with the telescopic one and new seals. It all sounds pretty straightforward but I thought I would just ask if anyone has done it.

Yes its quite simple if you follow the book..

WHS ^^^ - See the other thread, I did mine last weekend in situ and it took about an hour and 40 minutes for me to do all of one side and an oil and filter change too, although that was on my 2ltr Aircooled.

Hi everyone, I have just had my push rod seals done in my 2.0 Aircooled. It has solved the annoying oil leak but the tappets are sounding awful.

I had my local VW mechanic do the seals and we were hoping they would quieten down! They were really quiet before. I have driven it for over 100 miles and did an oil and filter change but still sounds bad!

It runs really well, no missing and loads of power!

Do you think it will get better or needs adjusting and am I damaging anything?
