Right then, recon box from Aiden now fitted and feeling good...............unfortunately rumble/drone still there!
When I cleaned and greased the CV joints One of the Four seemed a little 'notchy' so to be on the safe side i replaced that...still the same.
Even though the tyres were pretty new (6mths old) and balanced, in the back of my mind i couldn't help thinking perhaps a wheel/tyre may be the cause so this morning I swapped all four wheels and tyres with a mates and guess what?...................still there!!!
So to re-cap...............
Recon Gearbox.
New Front wheel bearings.
New Rear wheel bearings.
New rear shoes.
CV joints stripped and regreased (inc 1 new one).
Wheels and tyres swapped with another T25 to discount them.
Drums discs and calipers are only 2 yrs old.
All wheels spin freely with no catching or rubbing when jacked up.
My next angle of attack was going to be suspension but general opinion seems to be that faults in that area manifests itself as knocking/squeeking rather than rumbles/drone.
eliminating all your folding in the bank and wallet.. then finding the problem was some thing daft and inexpensive
The steering/suspension seems to be the only thing left
You said to me that it's worse on a fast left and disapears on a right (or was that the other way?) and that it's progressively getting worse generally.
could the compressed suspension transmit this rumble/drone if a bush or joint was shagged... anyone?
