A Question for an electricain any about ? :)

Hi,

In the final stages of setting up my elec hookup in my camper, I'm at the stage of wiring up a RCD unit but wanted to confirm the connections. Could any of you chaps confirm the connectiosn pls :

Its a CEC Plug In system, I can't find any wiring diagrams on the web.
Here's the colour key :

Red = live
Blue = Neutral
Green = Earth

Any help appreciated pls - thanks in advance

Just looking at the photo?? it looks a bit upside down??

The top, which is where the hagar logo is will be the mains incoming. The bus bar, which is the plastic covered copper come out on the bottom of the RCD to feed the bottom of the two MCB's. The bottom of the neutral side will have that black cable connection going to either one of those bars,altough it looks like is currently wired to the top one.

Then when you wire you neutrals goto the neutral bar,earth to the earth bar, and live from the top of the appropriate MCB (fuse).

I don't mean to sound rude, but if you're not sure how to do it, don't do it. Get someone else to wire it up for you; there's safety & insurance implications involved in this job.

Redmaine's directions appear correct but Andisnewsynchro has a point. As well as getting the wiring correct the most important thing about installing an RCD is checking to ensure that it works correctly. This means testing the RCD using a specialist tester to ensure that it trips at 30mA leakage current (or less), and that the speed that it trips within is less than 40ms when applying 150mA leakage current. That way you will know that your installation is safe and you are protected. As a qualified electrician I have the kit. If you fancy a trip to Ross on Wye I will happily test the RCD for you, but if you cannot I strongly recommend you get a qualified electrician (NAPIT etc) to check the installation for you, test it, and issue a test certificate.
