Knocking From Front Left Wheel Area On Left lock
What it says, really. Only happens on tight corners, more so if uphill. The knocking is once per revolution of the wheel, and sounds metallic. I can't find anything obvious, like a dangling cable, and I can't see or feel anything odd with the wheel.

Bearings? jack wheel off floor grab tyre 9.15 shake,,then12.30 do same "hands position of clock" should only have very slight movement not much ,wheel bearings going you normally notice more when turningas you seem to apply slightly diffrent pressure.dont nip them up tight to tight not right.and offcourse might not be this at all. good luck

Re: Knocking From Front Left Wheel Area On Left lock
Hi , A good friend of mine had a similar problem , he took me out in the camper and it almost sounded to be a broken CV joint but coming from the front , problem was it didn't do it all the time , I pulled the vehicle in and lifted it up spun each wheel rocked each wheel , all felt to be OK ,,,,,, I said its one of those noises that needs to get a bit worse ,, A few weeks later he came back in and when checking there was slight play in the nearside wheel ,,, removed the hubcap then the bearing cap and part of the shoulder the bearing cap sits on drooped out , the front disc where the outer bearing sits had cracked
I was not sure of the manufacturer of the disc's but the casting did not look to good , , Not sure what caused this problem but one thought I had was maybe someone that fitted the disc's had been lazy not pushing the bearings fully home on a press , , using the peening nut to force the bearings into position ,,,, If you've got alloys fitted is there weights on the inner rim

66 splity deluxe GP mk1, ,3 type 25s 1 with 1.9dt peugeot engine 100+ 1 with 1.9N/A pug eng , there are 7 t25s with pug power in Darlington

Front wheel bearings should have a slight amount of play, just be felt as a small click when cold and performing the 9-3 12-6 wriggle test.. if adjusting the washer behind the nut must be able to be moved up down with only a tiny amount of pressure..
Does the knock only occur on full lock? only uphill? Sure its the front? does sound more like a rear cv joint thats worn..
Checked your wheel bolts/nuts?
As suggested, look at inner wheel rim.. is something stuck there thats clipping something?
Jack it up and spin the wheel whist looking from the inside

Thanks for all the input, it's much appreciated. I'm in the US right now, but I'll follow up on all your suggestions when I get back Tuesday. I'm pretty certain it's the front, it doesn't have to be full lock but a fair amount, and the bolts are fine - I've had that experience before and make sure it won'tbe repeated!!

Yeah, you're right. I've eliminated everything else, and the symptoms are exactly right for a CV joint. It just sounded as though it was from the front! Now, the question is which one...! But I may have to leave that to a garage to find out.

Re: Knocking From Front Left Wheel Area On Left lock
If its a heavy clunking noise jack the back up and compare the play in the rear barings. Mine went in my doka and i was sure it was coming from the front but i had a mate drive it round the block while i hung out the window. CV joints make a pulsating clunky grind if you know what i mean, the more i get involved with these vans the more i can understand the different clunks
If it is the rear they are a right peace of cake to change if you buy one from syncrospares pressed into a hub for about £40. If it is the CV joints grab each drive shaft and give it a wiggle forward and back both sides. If it clunks around then it could be shagged, look for splits in the boots that mean the grease could have been lost causing CV failure. Again not a really hard job to replace if you have the right tools and loads of rubber gloves....
