Help stuck in 4th gear

Post by sandwedge »

Hi all
Well a quick run down of my journey home tonight.
Was happily cruising along an A road at about 50mph, heard a clunk from the rear, though it was some thing like a worn CV joint. Got to the next junction and the transmission would not come out of gear, clutch was working because the engine would die if I let the clutch out with gearbox stuck in 4th, had to ride the clutch like hell to pull away, and as a result have cooked that too.

Any ideas would be a big help, there was no other noise other than the clunk when driving along, no grinding sounds no rotational sounds, I have given the linkage from the gear stick the once over and all looks ok.

Cheers

Ian

Possible o/s engine mount? If it's dropped on o/s it could be sitting with weight on the gearbox selector shaft arm, then you won't get it out of whatever gear you were in when it happened

Thanks for the pointers, had come to the conclusion that it was gearbox related as well, have already tried to force it out of gear but only with the gear stick.
Will get in touch with Mr A. Talbot as its looks like its going to get expensive  . Well I need to get the box out to weld the rear seat belt anchors in so I guess that some sort of consolation
