Big boys broke my throttle and ran off...

Post by dieseldave »

1.9 1y

Alright the title isn't strictly true but...

I'm just finishing sticking (installing!) a 1.9 1y out of a seat ibiza into my van, only thing needed is to change the throttle linkage on the injector pump The one on the ibiza engine what looks like a gas strut attached to it. and as a double spring thing.

I removed all of from the ibiza engine being VERY careful not to take note of how any of it went together.

I then removed the linkage from the old engine taking extra special care not to take any note of how it came off, and then, leaving the job midway through, just to make sure I wouldn't be able to remember.

Oh yeah... just to make things a little more challenging I then mixed the bits up from the 2 linkages...

How hard can it be to get it all back together again? I thought "it's only some springs and plastic and metal and stuff"

F*cksocks!

I've tried every permutation of bits and nothing seems to work. There is a spliney shaft up out of the injector pump but the throttle arm doesn't seem to have splines on it... I've got a nice selection of rotary springs and a few bits of plastic.

The Ibiza engine seemed to have a split level effect with 2 sets of springs and the gas strut is a bit of a mystery...

Is there anyone among you who can shed some light on what bits I should use and what order they should go together?

Ideally something like... first the blah then the blahdity blah but make sure the blah deosn't ping off and hit you in the blah...

yours with joyous anicipation of life changing information!!

Won't a Seat Haynes manual or parts website illustrate how the bits are assembled?

You could always try the 'Blue Peter' wire coat hanger method......

Cheers for the reply.

I don't want to use the Seat linkage as it is too high and would involve chopping a whole in the engine lid. What I'd like to do it move the linkage from the old engine onto the new one, however I have made it very difficult for myself and was looking for a little guidance...

Thanks for the suggestion.

I am a good citizen of the internets and I usually spend an hour or two scouring the forums and wiki's before I resort to posting a question.

I couldn't find anything in the Wiki specific to the injector pump linkage assembly on a 1y engine or anything related.

I'm hoping someone out there has the knowledge to put one back together :)

Im glad to hear that you have searched thoroughly and all that and yet found nothing, maybe there is nothing to find  you have admitted that you went to great pains NOT to record anyhting so perhaps others have done likewise and therefore the information is er well ,gone?

right I just bought a van for bits and it just happens to have the said same seat lump in it, I wont be able to take any pickies till later in the w'end (unless the view has dissapeared), anyhow it has the std engine cover fitted and by memory a welded arm on the pump top, but it worked so will post up later on, if you hear nowt them pm me

Hi,

Brickwerks have a kit of parts which I purchased when I put the 1Y in, which will allow te existing cabling to connect up to the injection pump. Herewith the page details - you can refer to the instructions as well.,

Trust this helps
