dash tidy - storage fitting

Post by joe75 »

I have just bought one of the dash tidy/storage things that runs full length and has the little flip out table. Has anyone else got one, and if so how did you attach it to your dashboard? It looks like I will have to drill some holes and put some mounting brackets in my dash. Just wondering how to do a neat, strong job without damaging my dash?

Ideas please ...

I just screwed mine in using the self drilling self tap screws to get started, then using the black pan head screws that came with mine. Once it's on it's on, but dont do it if you think you will take it off. It is much easier to screw it on, and you need to take the tidy off when fitting the radio etc.

as above -
mine came with predrilled slots to indicate where the self tapping black screws should go -
line up - pilot drill - screw size drill - screw in to place - i added extra black washers as reassurance!

Mine did not come with any screws... :( Do the screws just go straight through the top plastic and then into the dash? I just can not quiet visualize how it would look or where the screws go in?

Couldn't bring myself to drill holes in the dash and always felt these dash tidys are over-priced for what they are. In the end I bought three stiff plastic seed trays for £1 (yup £1 shop again) and just stuck one on the passenger side with double-sided tape (£1 shop again). Its beeen there for at least 3 years, never moved and holds all the junk that accumulates up front. I lined it with anti-slip material (also £1 shop) and nothing rattles around. Most people assume its part of the dash and it could be removed with no holes left behind. The fact its black means it blends in,and actually it holds far more than any dash tidy I've seen.

Total cost, £3 and no damage done. If you get a good £1 shop, its a greater source of accessories than anywhere I know :D

Can you post a picture of your solution, it sounds good.
I hate those rattling, squeaking tacky plastic dash tidies.

Will take one later today. It works well. The only reason I came up with the idea is I went on holiday with my sister and I knew she'd want somewhere to put sun glasses, mint imperials etc etc. Can't see the sense in fitting a big lump of plastic that has irregular holes. All you want is somewhere to throw the junk that looks ok :D

Cup holders are better as independent units.

I've 'acquired' some bloomin strong magnets - the sort used for slapping temporary aerials onto vehicles. Going to bolt half a dozen to the bottom of my dash tidy :ok
I actually use one at the mo as the base for a universal mount which I can use to out either my sat-nav or mobile in, and it works well for that.
If it goes well, Ill post up a few pics. May even have some spare
