I have just spend the day retro fitting VW central locking to my westy. A bit of a job, especially getting the wiring up and down the door pillars
It is all in now and working but.... It only opens all doors when I open the passenger door with either the key or by pulling up the little black thing on the door. On the drivers side when I open it with the key it only opens that door, no so much use! Is there a difference between LHD and RHD central locking? Have I wired something up wrong? Anyone who has OG central locking hows does your work?
mine opens all doors using the key in the drivers or passengers door lock.but i have remote central locking fitted now.so dont use the key in the door locks nowadays.

Often there is only one of the locking actuators that also acts as a master (signalling that all other locks should change state). It will have more wires going to it than the others (usually 4 vs 2)
Seems like your master actuator is currently on the passenger side
From what i know either front door when used with the key should open all of the locks? I am aiming for remote opening as well. I plan to fit an alarm which I hope will allow me to open all the doors and turn the alarm off at the same time, like most modern vehicles how did you do yours remotely?
Youve must have master solenoid on the passenger door m8, all others you would have installed are the slaves. there aint no LHD/RHD kits, youd just need to put the master on your preferred side. Mine remotely opens fronts/slider with fob or when i use the key (only on the driver side though)
I installed an alarm that will work with CL, you can normally tell the ones that can do this because they have a brown and a white wire in the loom, you need to buy kits that work with alarms/CL. nearly all do. mine shuts the fronts and slider when i put the alarm on and undoes them when alarm off. never did get round to the tailgate though as ive heard ya gotta replace the lock mechanism....
I will have to have a look at it again over the next few days. From what I remember the front door motors looked the same and had the same 4 wires coming out of them? but as you say one must be the master - not sure how to tell but I will swop front door motors and see if it makes any difference?
As for the alarm i take it you mean the brown and white wires in the vw central locking? where did you connect them? I have soldered enough brown and white wires together today.
I managed to get an hr in tonight and got it sorted. I changed the motors from the drivers to the pas doors and it now all the doors unlock when I use the key in either the pas or drivers side.
next up the alarm....so I will have remote central locking
It was a standard VW system that I spend ages looking for. I was sold a full kit that turned out to be missing many vital parts! Happy its now done but was a mission
