Viberation
When going between i suppose 40 and 50 theres a viberation, go slower or faster and it isn't there, just like an unbalanced wheel but not if you catch my drift, i'm thinking propshaft... what might you think?

Or possibly out of balance prop shaft ? Had mine balanced & replace the UJs and no more vibrations.
What a long strange trip it's been

I take it to balance a prop shaft i have to take it somewhere? (propshafts are a new concept to me)

Luckily I've got this place just up the road http://www.propshafttechnology.co.uk/ but I guess there must be somewhere similar Down South. It could also possibly be down to your tyres, are they more of a road or off road tyre etc

Re: Viberation
Nige, take the shaft off, drive the van about to see if the vibration is still there... if it's gone then it's deffo the shaft. Examine the UJs for wear, sticky spots etc. If they look knackered, you might as well fit a couple for the cost involved. Get them from Baxter and get them fitted, then you can rule them out. Sometimes the little bits of steel that are welded on to dynamically balance the shaft can become rusted away, fly off, get stolen by aliens, that sort of thing but it's rare. If you replace the shaft, with new UJs, new bolts and nuts (to avoid the 'Ole Propshaft Pole Vault') taking care to align gearbox and diff as per Bentley, and you still have a vibration, then it could be a little more troublesome to fix but it can be done. Come back to the Forum if you get the above done and you still have a vibration.

You're my wife now Dave................

Re: Viberation
Take it to someone who does propshafts day to day, the end float has to be set perfectly with special circlips when the new bearings go in.
It will go bang if it isnt, ask me how i know...
The shaft itself is unlikely to have gone out of balance, unless of course you can see that there is a balance weight missing.

They didn't re-refurb it, just balanced I it & I think it cost about £65 or there abouts. Replaced the UJs etc myself, but at least the shaft itself is running true......
