Fibre glass pop top - what paint?

Post by purplecrocs »

What type of paint are the fibre glass pop tops painted with? Just the standard white ones, its not like car paint, not as glossy... mine could do with a freshen up

its not glossy as its probably got the original gel coat. You can paint it with any automotive primer & paint; if you want it dull you can use a matting agent.

When you find something suitable could you post what you bought up here? I am interested in doing the same at some point!

Thanks,

I've mentioned this before but Rustoleum is great on glass fibre. Sticks like poo to a blanket and its available in matt. No primer needed either. Rustoleum works on steel, ally and glass fibre.

Hi, some of these GRP roofs can start to look quite a mess going very dull and dry , a lot of the time a good machine polish will bring it back up , here's some pics of a roof I fitted to one of my campers ,, the roof was from a 1982 model that had been left abandoned outside for 11 years , when I got it moss growing thick very dull and dry , it took quite a lot of work to wash off but when dry was very dull , I seriously thought it would have to be painted but after speaking to a pal that works with GRP he said a good polish will put it rite ,, in the pic below the roof is sitting loose on the van to the right ,in one of my old storage sheds ,,,,, the next pic shows it fitted and polished up and can clearly see the shine ,,,

Either paintshop.ie (who'll give you a discount if you mention me and the club) and specialise in heavy-duty industrial paints, Lawsons of Southampton, or Rustoleum themselves.
