ignition switch

Post by Ray »

was going to center parcs today and smelt burning, came to a halt and found ignition switch had burnt out! RAC took me back home left van at local garage. not sure if starter moter was at fault yet or just old igition switch. I recall seeing a a diagram somewhere showing where to drill the housing to get the switch out, cant see it in bentley either. going back in the car tomorrow, but wanted to show the diagram to the garage so they wouldn,t mess the housing. The ignition key is stuck in the switch - well seized, my best key as well! Any idea where that diagram is?
cheers

Do you have higher wattage headlamp bulbs fitted?

Not really, only fitted double headlights some while ago but only with std bulbs. Did have headlights on at the time but only on low beam as it was snowing. I did have a problem recently on high beam where nearside high wouldn,t come on. Cured itself so thought it was just rain caused. Did use the original vw harness to connect the middle lights though. Could have been the lights though on reflection because just before the engine finally stopped, we were in a traffic queque and the car in front was indicating something amiss at the front of the van in his rear view mirror. maybe the headlights were flashing or something.
