Westy Roof Extension Panel Help

Post by timmy-boy79 »

Next on my list to sort out is the Roof bed.

I appear to be missing the additional fold out panel that extends the roof bed so you can actually lie down.

Whilst I can measure the gap etc and drop in some thick MDF, I'm not convinced that a slightly overweight adult wouldn't bend it, perhaps dumping them on top of the people below

If anyone can help, it would be nice to know or see the exact dimensions and more importantly, what sort of material (and thickness) Westfalia used on the original?

I've got the brackets that i guess used to be attached to it, but some clues as to how it folded would also be gratefull, presumably it folded back over itself (180degrees)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers

Tim

If you're talking about a high top - it doesn't fold, but slides up above the static half on runners. Pop top, I have no idea.

i just made one out of 10mm ply or it may have been 12mm cant quite remember, anyway its fine no problems with flexing even with me up there. notched it each end so it sits either side of my poptop lift frame and the kids cant roll out either.

if you`re worried about the strength do what westy did and edge the ply with some alloy or metal channelling.

Thanks for the responces guys..
The Van isn't the high top, it's the pop top roof so Lee, i guess what your saying is the way forward.. I'll give it a go..

Unless anyone else has got a roof panel extension piece they want to sell?
