Mot requirements for a new import
I have recently bought a LHD T3 Westfalia, it is currently on german import plates. Does anyone have any ideas as to what work would be required to get it MOT'd in the UK. I guess that the lights will need changing or converting with beam benders. The speedo is currently in KPH only, does this need changing. If so what are the options for doing this. Does the vehicle require a fog light? Is anything else required that I have missed? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, don't worry about speedo not part of test. You will need to swap fog lamp to o/s/r. Beam benders will be ok..

WHS
just (hopefully) a case of a middle or off side mounted rear fog light & beam benders on your headlights.

Speedo will be OK for MOT but you may think about changing the head at a later date for your own sanity...lol
Headlamps will need light benders...good ones like Simon sells:
http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php?p ... t&Itemid=6" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It will need a foglamp fitting to the O/S/R, switched from the dash but it must have an indicater lamp fitted to know when it is on.
People usually modify the existing lamp holder (which has a place for the bulb but not the positive terminal to make it work)

If first used after 1st April 1984, then your speedo must be capable of reading in both kph and mph. BUT as already said this is not checked as part of the MOT so shouldn't stop you getting registered unless the DVLA are on a mission.
NO PIES CAKES OR BEER LEFT IN THIS VAN OVERNIGHT.

if its a nice van not a tatty old one then why not get the job done right!
mph speedo, rhd headlamps , rear wiring loom from rhd van and os lamp unit for rhd. fog lamp switch and some minor wiring between switch and front loom!
probably another £100 if correctly done by a garage and everything is nice and neat!

Re: Mot requirements for a new import
Well £100 for the labour maybe but £50-£70 for a second hand speedo head, anything upto £220 for second hand R/H/D square lamps set and perhaps £25-£30 for a second hand R/H/D lamp holder...... over £400!
Speedo might be worth it in the long run but I really wouldn't bother with the others and just mod the existing O/S/R lamp holder to power the bulb on that side...plus associated wiring and switch.

Re: Mot requirements for a new import
DONT buy a speedo, just get tiny stickers from a stationary shop sying 30 40 50 60 and 70. stick them on the dial face where they should be. it will pass.
