Dash Heater Always Hot

Hello Everyone

My dash heater seems to be always on no matter how much I move the control sliders around. I've tried every permutation I can try and there's still hot air coming out. It's getting pretty hot in there! :oops: It has been like this since I got the van a year ago but I want to sort it before I go away in late July when it's hot (or should be :)

The temperature guage is fine (sits about half way as always), no problems with overheating, slider controls are not loose - can't think what it is. Is it possible the valve into the heater matrix is knackered? Any ideas anyone?

It's a 1.9 Waterboxer, 1983 RHD and there's no heater in the back - it's in the cab only.

drop the spare wheel and if you lay under the van you will be able to see the valve that will let you turn off the heat.

chances are that either the cable is broke or its come off either at the valve or at the controller

yeah ducks,ive just got my van on the road and been sweating me bag off as i couldnt turn the heater off,will have a look myself 2moj...cheers ducks

Thanks for the advice. I was going to look at it yesterday (Sun) but it poured down all day long. I'll post in what happened when I get to it - might take as long as the weekend though!

I take it the valve is different in dervs then? Mine is in the cab......try moving it over by hand not a long time solution will stop it being hot for now!!! D

Even with the heater valve completely 'off', it still lets some water through so lots of van have some heat permanently coming through :roll:

Seems the options are A) freezing van in winter or B) Steamy van in summer. You might have one of the (B) variety :wink:

Drive naked with the windows open, its what I do :shock:
One T25 in London, another one in Sydney.

the control is in the van , the valve is above the spare wheel ,behind the rad

Sorry to Hijack your post, but while wer'e on the same subject...
My hot cold cable has broken, Is this difficult to replace.....

Rob its a pain rather than difficult , just a matter if taking the broken cable out and refitting the new one.

Took the control panel off and everything seems connected. WD40d it and it slides easier now but can't see anything wrong. I'll have to either put up with it or replace the valve - not sure I want to do this since some people are saying it won't make any difference. Think I'll just put the window down and wait for winter...

Well in case you haven't seen my posts on this subject been having a fairly shat time trying to sort mine out! The job is very stright forward but I have been having a hard time trying to get the correct replacement cables as mine seems to have the earlier cables but later van (83 code d code c cables) Anyway bit sore about this at the mo but I have got a spare a couple of cables that may be useful for someone 1983 if anyone does I just want some of me money back. Oh and b4 I digress any further to change the heater valve cable is not to tricky just means you will be upside down and in some funny positions....put it in at the lever end then down to the valve just a little clip....mind you mine is in the van as mentioned b4 am I talking boll***s again!? :roll:
