Split charge relay confusion!

Post by Rey »

Have been informed i have to replace my split charge relay on my 1990 westy atlantic however, the auto electrician is suspicious as to whether mine has the correct relay fitted (may have been messed with in the past) can anybody out there give me some information or a photo showing the correct identification/details printed on the relay? Any help would be appreciated as i am totally stuck on this! :?

The original is a 5 terminal DOUBLE MAKE AND BREAK relay where two outlets are switched live together.
To be honest I would recommend joining the two 6.3mm output terminals (87 & 87b) and replacing them with one larger 9.5mm spade connector, also changing the spade going to terminal 30 for the larger 9.5mm spade and use a heavier duty relay like this one: It will be better than the original I promise.

Beat me to it but I've included more info lol

by the way the normal relays are at a push available from halfords as a ring spot light kit for about £15 or you cna get the relays on its own for about £5 ,the smart relay uses less wires so easier to wire up and if your main(engine) battery gets low it will stop charging the lesuire i.e so youve always got a charged abttery to start the van

Or direct replacement:

But like I say...the heavier relay would be better but would need new larger terminals fitting.
