Accelerator is very stiff - how to take it off?

Post by ringo »

In the last very cold snowy spell, the accelerator pedal seemed stuck - i pushed it down and it free'd.

However, ever since then the accelerator has been sticking.

I had a look today and its not the cable - its the accelerator mechanism hinge that attaches to the floor pan but from underneath (the bit that the end of the accelerator cable slots into).

I've applied some plus gas and some oil - but its not freeing up.

Are there any tips on getting the thing off? Its bloody annoying.

Cheers,

Ringo

It's a pig of a thing - You can only just see it from under the van anyway. Break both your forearms first, it'll make the job of dismantling it easier  (The earlier ones have an adjustable stop for full throttle fyi)
You will need a good bright headtorch too!
Oh yeah - the outers go brittle and break into lots of bits

i had the same problem when the cold spell started a month or so ago, it turned out to be the cable was rusted and had quite alot of crap with in it. by that i meaqn the white nylon coating that the inner metle cable sits with in. i ended up replacing the cable and the outer sleaving (adian has the sleaving),and the result inpresed me a lot , it must have always been stiff it was not untill i compleatly re did it that i worked out how it should be. i dont want to question where you say the falt is but from what your discription the part should be fairly free as there is a bolt or pin of sorts that the mechinisum hinges on efffectively. i would look again at the cable and the outer sleaving.

hope this helps neil

Thanks guys,

I loosened the cable and that seemed free enough. I changed it last year so it should be fine.

Does the hinge connect with a circlip or a nut? Can i take the whole lot off or is it welded?

Thanks
